The cuff can be slipped around a beam or branch then bolted together. Suspended from the clamp is a carabine hook 100mm long and 50mm in diameter with a nylon bush for quiet low-friction use. The cuff on this model fits a beam 100mm in diameter.
If you are fitting to a tree branch I would suggest you put something between the steel and the wood as a liner (bit of old leather, heavy vinyl etc) to protect the branch and give it a snug fit.
If you can't slide the cuff onto the beam you can
carefully
ease it open then clamp back together again.
